Our Garden Suite was converted from the former servants’ quarters of the house and sits directly above the home’s kitchen. In 18th and 19th century New Orleans, kitchens were housed in buildings detached from the main house. Rooms for the house servants were usually built above the kitchen to conserve land space. It was also thought at that time, that the house servants would take greater care while cooking meals over the open hearth as their own rooms would be endangered should a fire get out of control.
Today, the two rooms where the house servants once lived have been combined into one romantic and cozy space. The original exposed brick chimney rises from the kitchen below and splits the space in half. On one side, a queen pine bed, dresser and 20″ flat panel TV with built-in DVD player and digital satellite signal await you. On the other, the bath and dressing area, featuring a wardrobe chest and two Queen Anne chairs. The 5-foot by 5-foot shower is built from glass block and classic black and white tile. The dual shower heads beckon for a shower-mate to scrub your back.
French doors lead from the sleeping area to the private balcony overlooking the pool and garden. Cotton Chadsworth & Haig waffle bathrobes and slippers are provided for your use during your stay as well as luxurious towels from the Turkish Towel Company, high-quality Comphy bed linens and Aromae-brand botanical bath amenities. Each room is also equipped with hairdryer, iron & board, room safe, and smoke alarm.
